My mother & brother live in La Marina within the Province of Alicante, and this year my brother is 18 years old. What are the job opportunities for young adults in Spain these days if there are any? I assume the best bet would be in Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja? He has lived in Spain since the age of 2 so obviously went to Spanish schools and is fluent.
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated, I understand that Spain has had a tough job climate for a long time now.
Not sure if it would be of any help, but just in case….Broadly speaking I think it tends to be difficult for a 18-year-old adult to find a decent job in Spain. Youth unemployment rate, even if decreased significantly during the last few years, is still at very high levels nowadays
Being English his mother tongue and being fluent in Spanish is a great advantage though. As Miguel suggests in a previous post, seeking a job in the tourism sector is an obvious alternative in Alicante and its sorroundings. I think other options would be related to teaching English as a second language.
In any case, and according to my experience, the chances of getting a good job in Spain strongly increase so long as you are able to gather a bachellor or masters degree. Technical skills in STEM areas are particularly demanded by the labour market at the moment, specially if the job applicant is a billingual person. As he would be aware of, not many Spaniards have a good level of English, which is something he sould be able to take advantage of while looking for a job!
